Overview

The Senior HSE Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of HSE management systems across all divisions providing leadership to all projects & personnel. The Senior HSE Director will work closely with operations and executive management to align HSE functions within the organization and will provide leadership and strategic direction to all HSE and operational personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and implements policies, procedures, programs and job-specific safety plans for operations that comply with regulatory and / or client program requirements.
  • Management of HSE staff
  • Maintains broad knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and familiarity with relevant environmental laws.
  • Represents the Company in meetings with government bodies and other agencies on matters regarding workplace health and safety.
  • Maintains knowledge in safety criteria of OSHA CFR-29 1926 Construction, 1910 General Industry, and ANSI standards.
  • Receives complaints and reports on safety concerns and conducts proper and documented investigations.
  • Main point of contact for workplace injuries, accident investigations and near-misses.
  • Visits project sites regularly to coordinate and/or conduct jobsite inspections and ensure implementation of the correct safety policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with agencies as a company representative (OSHA, USACE, Fire Marshal, etc.).
  • Reviews construction plans for evacuation plans, designs for disposal systems, lighting and ventilation, and ensures there is no danger to the health or safety of workers or site visitors.
  • Ensure training plans are implemented and documented for all projects and programs.
  • Oversees HSE communications including toolbox talks, initiatives, and campaigns. Regularly communicate with all levels of management on HSE status, goals, and targets.
  • Coordinates all efforts to prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Ensures documentation is completed for each accident, incident, and near miss.
  • Serve as main point of contact for official OSHA forms.
  • Oversees the Company drug testing policy and procedures.
  • Assess working conditions, equipment, processes, etc. to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and Company expectations.
  • Ensure all IH risk is addressed where applicable.
  • Implement audit and assessment program; document findings and work to closure; track and trend results and modify systems & processes when necessary.
  • Investigate accidents to ascertain causes for modification of safety programs and processes.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related technical field.
  • Proven record of establishing programs and delivering significant continuous performance improvements.
  • Must have a working understanding of regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.), with extensive experience in the development, maintenance and implementation of HSE systems.
  • Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of safety management, risk assessments and reduction, industrial hygiene, loss prevention, ergonomics and occupational health.
  • Must have strong leadership, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to be persuasive and credible across multiple organizational levels and cultures resulting in improved HSE performance.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of variables while meeting quality, timeliness and cost requirements. Ability to work with mathematical concepts and statistical inference.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of previous experience leading HSE for a major organization.
  • Safety Professional certifications are preferred.

Travel Requirements

  • 25% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
